Summary: cups remote printer added via yast2 printer isn't
available as printer queue
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: Final
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Printing
AssignedTo: jsmeix@xxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: teheo@xxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: jsmeix@xxxxxxxxxx
Found By: ---
My laptop connects in client-only mode to my desktop which exports its printer
via CUPS. When configuring the queue on laptop, "Test Remote IPP Access" works
and "Use Server's Default Queue" is checked. There's no error message but the
printer queue never becomes available. lpq says
lpq: error - no default destination available.
and cups manager doesn't show any new printer. The interesting thing is that
this configuration used to work a few days ago. I think what broke it was
connecting a different usb printer directly to the laptop. It somehow messed
up the configuration and yast printer somehow reverted to the previous
configuration which was using samba. After several deletion / addition cycles,
yast printer now seems to be in sync with the actual configuration and I can
add SMB printer fine but CUPS remote printing just doesn't work.
cups-autoconfig.log shows that the local USB printer was automatically
configured so it definitely did something.
