Doug, the same applies to this.  Just as I've already written in comment #12,
you may not call a method on a device object directly.  You need an interface
for that.

I'll attach a fixed version of your example script.

Please let me know if you need further assistance in fixing virt-manager. 
mweiss contacted me and asked for help.  If my fixed version of the hal check
script isn't enough please let me know and I'll have a look at virt-manager
itself.
