Some additional notes:
Inkscape during 0.45.1 > 0.46 changed some code which causes Inkscape to crash
on start on 10.2 or 10.3. After a lot of testing we found it was a problem with
the way boehm-gc was compiled. See:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=335123
I built a slightly different gc package in my home directory and it works fine
with Inkscape svn for a while now.
To be more precise 0.46 will compile and run fine on 10.3, so a backport is
possible without upgrading any of the gtk2/gtkmm stack - if gc-6.6 is
recompiled with my spec file changes.
Where the trouble lies is two fold:
The Inkscape devs told me only the most current gtkmm2 will be stable if one is
compiling with gcc 4.3
It probably won't be until 0.46.1 is released that all the gcc 4.3 patches are
in Inkscape.
