This has 2 issues for me 1) The Panel covers the currently selected package 2) Showing the Panel on item selection is strange and confusing as you are dynamically modifying the UI (not showing something new as a popup, but already modifying the existing UI). I propose the Info Panel is always shown, even if no package is selected - e.g with something like "No package selected" or something.
