https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=372919 Summary: bcm4306 rev 3 should use b43legacy(?) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: martin.schlander@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I am in the unfortunate position of owning this pcmcia card: 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03) Alpha3 automatically loads b43 driver, but after adding the firmware, I still got errors in dmesg. And I couldn't get it to work properly. When not using (K)NM I could get an ip address, I could ping the router, iwlist would find networks, but address lookups wouldn't work etc. Here's dmesg output of loading b43: b43-phy0: Broadcom 4306 WLAN found phy0: Selected rate control algorithm 'pid' Broadcom 43xx driver loaded [ Features: PMLR, Firmware-ID: FW13 ] input: b43-phy0 as /devices/virtual/input/input6 b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 351.126 (2006-07-29 05:54:02) b43-phy0 warning: You are using an old firmware image. Support for old firmware will be removed in July 2008. b43-phy0 warning: You must go to http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the latest firmware (version 4). See: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#bcm43xx.2Cb43legacy.2Cb43.2Cso... So I extracted the proper firmware and blacklisted b43 and set b43legacy to load on boot. Dmesg output when loading b43legacy looks good: Broadcom 43xx-legacy driver loaded [ Features: PLRID, Firmware-ID: FW10 ] But.. with b43legacy absolutely nothing works, the wireless systray icon for knm won't appear, there's no wlan device in 'ifconfig -a' (with b43 there would be a wlan0 device)... This card worked pretty nicely with the deprecated bcm43xx driver+knm on 10.2 and 10.3. This is probably another unrelated bug, but.. I tried to use the "kernel module" entry box under "Hardware" in YaST NIC module to switch from b43 to b43legacy for the Broadcom card - but that field does nothing... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
