looks like bug #116655
"parport in ECP mode doesn't work after rmmod & insmod"
FYI regarding "yast ... seem to reload parport_pc":
It isn't YaST itself which reloads parport modules.
It is the hardware detection via hwinfo which is
called by YaST to autodetect parport printers, see
