This is what I heard from my contact at sony, who's developing the driver:
Although I may understood wrongly, 'wlan' node are for softmac drivers,
i.e. for the drivers which offer userspace handling of 802.11 mac
management and/or 802.11 raw frames.
PS3 wireless never permits 802.11 frame handling in userspace (and even
in guest OSes), because the firmware/hypervisor will do 802.11 mac
management (i.e. fullmac driver).
Anyway, the assumption that all wireless driver should have 'wlan%d'
and/or all 'eth%d' are _not_ wireless driver is wrong, I think.
I'm not sure what's the policy on this, should all wireless devices be named
wlan?
