As for modules ready and easy to use from perl, there are basically three other
possibilities: XML::MyXML which is very simple but written in perl (and so
probably too slow) and XML::Simple with either XML::SAX or XML::Parser which is
very easy to use (in fact, except of function names, usage is quite the same as
for XML::Bare).

I do not know what do you really need - something very fast, something easy to
use or both? As for easiness, XML::Simple is a good choice. But I even do not
know whether are XML::Parser or XML::SAX that much slower than XML::Bare - I
think they should not be, they are using expat or libxml2, but you should know
better.

I think that using XML::Simple is a pretty good option, because it uses parsers
that just work :-)

If you really need a XML parser fast like a hell, I actually happen to know
one. Unfortunately, it is written in C and has no perl bindings yet, so we
would have to write them. (Which might not be easy, but at least possible,
unlike fixing XML::Bare.)
