https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=364662 Summary: Mark kernel-xen packages as "interactive" for purposes of zypper Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: marlier@studentuniverse.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- (Apologies if this should be filed against another component; kernel, libzypp, and xen all seemed like possibilities) The zypper update method is quite lovely, and "--skip-interactive" is a nice flag when I'm updating dozens of machines and can't simply reboot them when finished. According to the zypper manual page, --skip-interactive will skip packages with license agreements, or packages that require a reboot. Standard kernel packages are marked as interactive for purposes of zypper; they require a reboot once they've been applied. However, -xen kernels and kernel patches are not marked as interactive, and regardless of the use of the --skip-interactive flag will be installed when `zypper up --skip-interactive` is run. This, in turn, causes module version issues -- it becomes impossible to load new modules into the running kernel until after a reboot, because of version mismatches in the /lib/modules tree. It causes other problems as well. I believe that the correct solution is to mark the kernel-xen package as interactive. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
