https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=362610 Summary: Modem connection damages /dev/null Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: radomir.cernoch@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Every time I connect to the internet via modem, the /dev/null gets damaged. It behaves exactly like the bug described in http://tr.opensuse.org/SDB:/dev/null_Damaged_Again_and_Again with the only difference in the suse version (I am using 10.3). The /dev/null file gets deleted and sometimes a regular file with the same name is created instead. The 'ls -l /dev/null*' output looks like: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2008-02-18 01:16 /dev/null.current -> null.2008-02-18.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 181924 2008-02-18 01:20 /dev/null.2008-02-18.0 And the content of /dev/null.2008-02-18.0 is full of log messages like: Feb 18 01:20:15 CET: WvDial<*1>: Sending: ATDT*99***1# Feb 18 01:20:15 CET: WvDial<*1>: Waiting for carrier. Feb 18 01:20:15 CET: WvDial Modem<*1>: ATDT*99***1# Feb 18 01:20:15 CET: WvDial Modem<*1>: NO CARRIER Feb 18 01:20:15 CET: WvDial<Warn>: No Carrier! Trying again. Moreover, when the /dev/null file is recreated (by 'mknod /dev/null c 1 3), the new null file will never be touched again (until the system reboot). Lastly (if it helps) I am using a GPRS phone modem over bluetooth connection. The modem has been set up through yast. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
