https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=361411 Summary: Messy and completely unclear translation in openSUSE Updater error(?) message Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Translations AssignedTo: ke@novell.com ReportedBy: mack@ifis.cs.tu-bs.de QAContact: ke@novell.com Found By: --- On an update process, the openSUSE Updater issued an info, warning, or error message (unclear, which one) with the following content: 2 Probleme: Problem: Wenn nur Abhängigkeiten der besten Architektur verwendet werden, wird keine eindeutige Lösung gefunden. So, there are two problems. Indeed, following this statement, three 'Problem:' sections are following, which rather seems to be an error in teh openSUSE Updater. 'Problem: Wenn nur Abhängigkeiten der besten Architektur verwendet werden, wird keine eindeutige Lösung gefunden.' == 'If only dependencies of the best architecture are used, no distinct solution will be found.' Sounds as if it stems from a translation machine. Neither a problem is described, nor is it a problem by itself, but just a condition. And what is a 'best architecture'? And how can I 'use' an architecture? Anyway, the message box does not give me any choice to choose from, so this is not an information for an action anyways. Second 'Problem:' section: 'Problem: Dies würde OpenOffice_org-de-2.3.0.1.2-3.noarch ungültig machen.' (Problem: this would make OpenOffice_... invalid). Pardon? 'THIS'??? What is meant by THIS? There is no reference available, 'this' could refer to. And what is a valid or invalid 'OpenOffice_org-de-2.3.0.1.2-3.noarch'??? OpenOffice_org-de-2.3.0.1.2-3.noarch is a package name, but what the heck is a valid or invalid package??? (Problem: If only dependencies of the best architecture will be used, no distinct solution will be found. With this trial of a solution only dependencies in the best architecture had been considered. Considering all soluble objects requires much time, but it can lead to a better result) Again: it starts with a condition for a problem, without mentioning the problem itself. And again stating some architectural properties without saying anything about what the architecture and what a 'best architexture' in the context of a software update should be. In the next sentence it is mentioned the first time that this message box seems to be the result of trying to find a solution. Without stating the initial problem for this test for a solution... Well, so what is to do with this test for a solution, if the initial problem is not stated? (Fortunately, one does not have to decide anything, as only an 'Ok'-Button is available on the message box.) 'Soluble objects'??? Nice, but it doesn't say anything to the user. And if considering all of them can lead to better results (for what problem?), this might be nice, but as long as I don't see any other button than the 'Ok' button, it does not give any information to me. Again it is a condition, but there are no choices to make, so it has no meaning. Next section: Lösung 1: Versuche eine Lösung zu finden, die ALLE Möglichkeiten berücksichtigt. Bezieht sich auf auflösbare Objekte mit kompatibler Architektur. (Solution 1: Trying to find a solution (or: you should try to find a solution) considering ALL possibilities. Relates to soluble objects with compatible architecture) Beyond the ambiguity if I should do something or the Updater is trying to do something, the last sentence is not even a complete sentence in german language, so one does not even know, what the sentence is trying to say. Something relates itself or is related to some objects with some funny properties. But where is the solution, which is promised? Reading through this, I get the idea, it might be a problem beyond mere translation, so if it is, it might be good to forward it to 'openSUSE Updater'... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
