I apologize for not specifying my system more completely before. It's the
Radeon 9800 Pro I mentioned and two monitors. A Sony CPD 420 GS-T CRT monitor
and an LG L245WP TFT. The CRT has an official maximum resolution of 1600x1200.
The native resolution of the TFT is 1920x1200.
Do you think the DDC data is broken because there are no resolutions specified
between 1600x1200 and 1024x768?
I will paste an equivalent (I think) part from an Xorg.0.log from a Ubuntu 7.04
installation:
(II) RADEON(0): Validating modes on Primary head ---------
(II) RADEON(0): DFP table revision: 3
(II) RADEON(0): Panel infos found from DDC detailed: 1920x1200
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from Detailed timing table: 1920x1200
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from Detailed timing table: 1600x1200
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from standard timing table: 1600x1200
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from standard timing table: 1280x1024
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from standard timing table: 1680x1050
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from standard timing table: 1280x1024
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 1280x1024
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 1024x768
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 1024x768
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 800x600
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 800x600
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 640x480
(II) RADEON(0): Valid Mode from established timing table: 640x480
I understand that this is a different version of X so it may not be very
relevant, but the monitor seems to report several extra modes.
I have changed the Xorg.conf as you suggested and that certainly changes the
screen: the image on the TFT widescreen seems unchanged, but now the image on
the CRT is not scaled horizontally to fit the screen, the left bit is cut off.
KInfoCenter still says my X server is running 1024x768 16bit
I will try some resolution changes in a moment. As that may kill X, I will send
this comment first. It does seem strange, to me anyway, that SaX2 reports
1280x1024@16bit for the Card and Monitor Properties.
