https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=361255 Summary: It should be easy to install software that doesn't come in the CD/DVD Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: i386 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: federico@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Development As of 11.0 alpha2, it's pretty hard to set up your machine to be able to install software from the online repositories. This is a combination of different problems: * The installer doesn't leave the OSS repository configured, and doesn't offer a way to add it. * The obvious way to install software is through the desktop tools that invoke "yast2 --install". Unfortunately, that program doesn't have a way to add repositories. * Left-click on the software updates applet (the notification area icon) just says "your system is up to date". * Right-click onthe software updates applet has "Add or remove update sources". However, that program gives you many options... "scan network for SLP" is the first option but it obviously doesn't find anything on my network :) The second option, "Community repositories" is the correct one, and then one has to find the OSS repository in there. Things would be much easier if the installer simply left the OSS repository set up for later use. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
