To comment 15: This is a theory and it is what I was thinking before this bug
was opened. If it is true for Mathias Rabe's disc, then It looks very strange,
that:
1) seagate-tools did not find any problem
2) long self test did not find any problem
So I am starting to suspect, that Mathias Rabe's disc firmware interprets
pending sectors in a different way.
Let's start to verify:
Could you do following test, please:
cat /dev/sda >/dev/null
It will take about one hour. If there is any read error on your disc, it should
be found. If not, then "pending sector" has a different meaning than mentioned
above.
If there will be any error, there is something bad with self test, which did
not find it.
If there will be no error, there is something bad interpretation of "pending
sector" as critical value.
Comment 16 shows log messages, which explicitly implies bad disc, so reopening.
