the use of aufs is an option in kiwi. you can switch it off if you
remove the flags="unified" attribute from the config.xml. kiwi supports
three modes of live systems:

a) flags="unified"      -> squashfs compressed root mounted via aufs
b) flags="compressed"   -> squashfs compressed root mounted via links
c) _no_flags_           -> root mounted via links but read-only
                           data are directly part of iso filesystem. Doesn't
                           require either squashfs or aufs


so we have options but I really would like to see aufs fixed
