Well, it looks like the hang is triggered by collecting email ( hence the
approximate timespan of 10min ). When disabling automatic collection the hang
does not occur.

While checking out gnome-keyring-manager on other grounds ( Bug 356519 ) I
found that in the Applications listing Evolution always occurred twice, once
with full pathname ( /usr/bin/evolution ) and once just with the binaries name.

Disabling the occurrence without full path seems to fix it. The question
remains how the two occurrences of Evolution got created and why they should
lead to a hang.
