No, I can't find that message.
And yes, the machine hangs after the microcode_ctl -u command and with
/etc/microcode replaced by that from intel-ia32microcode-29Aug2005.txt.bz2.
Where do I get that one from? Which firmware file to use?

microcode: CPU1 updated from revision 0x21 to 0x2e, date = 08112004
No, I can't find that message.
And yes, the machine hangs after the microcode_ctl -u command and with
/etc/microcode replaced by that from intel-ia32microcode-29Aug2005.txt.bz2.
If yes, either the microcode update driver is buggy or other code is
buggy. I'll double check the driver. In the meantime, can you try the older
version microcode update driver see if this is a regression.
