--- Comment #3 from Marton Balint 2008-01-12 20:12:34 MST ---
I am experiencing the same slowdown on OpenSuSE 10.3 using nscd and nss_ldap.
There are some minor differences with the original bug report: my system is
32-bit, and the slowdown occurs after 1-2 hours, and not after 1 week.
I enabled the nscd debug log, and it looks like after 1-2 hours, nscd no longer
can cache the passwd results. The usual
"Haven't found "username" in password cache!"
messages appear, but the
"add new entry "username" of type GETPWBYNAME for passwd to cache"
messages are missing.
Interestingly, after 3-4 minutes, nscd finally can cache the username, the
magic "add new entry ..." message appears in the log, and the slowdown goes
away. There is also a suspicous message: "short write in cache_addpw: Broken
pipe"
I attached a snippet of nscd.log, the first part of it is the non-working state
of nscd, the "test102" username is requested from nscd, and the second part of
the logfile is the working state, when the test102 username is finally cached.
