Have not seen any news re fate so submitting this as an RFE here.

Fedora 8 includes pam_timestamp, which by default, keeps the root permission
for the user (where needed) for 5 minutes.
This, in combination with the pam-panel-applet (which allows you to drop the
credentials earlier if needed) would make a nice addition to the distro.
