.. to be useful* ;-).
Just a point: text installation mode it takes only 400 MB. of hard disk.
I mean, I am aware of the rest of the bugzillas opened (and closed) that talk
about this same issue. And I am also aware that this will be a nonfix as it is
one of that "features by design".
O.K. I can understand your point, but I guess there are several administrators
who really need a full server without any x server or any other GUI and they
only need a console based (but full-featured) installed system.
And by "full featured" I mean some "basic" packages installed by default, such
as "cron", "postfix", some network utilities (ping, telnet, etc...), uuencode
or metamail and so on.
So, as the text installation pattern cannot be modified, it would be great to
make a "server pattern" that matches a basic (but powerful) server installation
with server environment-related packages installed, but just keeping the
ncurses GUI.
* And it is not useful because it can turn into a problem for admins. For
example, as Postfix is not installed in this mode, when you are going to
install "cron" (that is also not installed), "cron" adds "Exim" (another MTA)
as required package, and both (cron and exim) are scheduled to be installed.
And Exim is not always the choice for some users that were using Postfix for
years, so if you are not really careful, you will get Exim installed on your
system.
