Recently upgraded a server with a Seagate tape drive from opensuse 9.2 to 10.3.
Used a fresh hard drive, so I still have the 9.2 disk. It's a good thing that I
did, because 10.3 refuses to work with the tape drive.

Running mt -f /dev/st0 status gives "mt: /dev/st0: rmtopen failed: Input/output
error" and causes the following line to be added to dmesg:

st0: Error 40000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt 0x4).

Now, I know the tape drive works. I put that 9.2 hard drive back in, booted to
it, and the tape drive worked perfectly.

So I did a hwinfo --scsi under 9.2 and got this:

CODE
19: SCSI 101.0: 10601 Tape
[Created at scsi.1415]

hwinfo --scsi in 10.3:

CODE
19: SCSI 101.0: 10601 Tape
[Created at scsi.1415]
UDI:
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_10de_85_scsi_host_0_scsi_device_lun0_0_scsi_generic

Revision: "8A51"
Driver: "pata_amd", "st"
Driver Modules: "pata_amd"

Device Number: char 9:0 (char 21:2)
Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown

So, seeing that I was now using pata_amd, and there is a bug report with
pata_amd already, i tried using brokenmodules=pata_amd. System booted and
continued to use pata_amd despite my objections.

I am without a tape drive. I do not know if this is the same as
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=334360, but it seems kind of
similar.

I'm sorry if I filed this bug report incorrectly. My first time filing a bug!

Thank you,
S. Martin
