Using a T42p:
10.1: I can reproduce the problem exactly as described. "xmodmap -pp" reports
12 buttons. gnome-mouse-properties evidently switches 1<->3 (the buttons below
the touchpad) but ignores 10<->12 (the buttons above the touchpad). I can work
around the problem with xmodmap:
xmodmap -e "pointer = 3 2 1 4 5 6 7 8 9 12 11 10"
10.2: The buttons above the touchpad work fine, but the buttons below the
touchpad don't work at all, right or left, right-handed mouse or left-handed
mouse. "xmodmap -pp" reports only 9 buttons. Then again, my touchpad doesn't
seem to be working there, either.
10.3: Works as expected. Both sets of buttons work in both right-handed and
left-handed mode, and the touchpad works as well. "xmodmap -pp" reports 9
buttons.
It appears that this is FIXED, at least moving forward.
