¡Ouch! You are right, and I am absolutely *dumb* :-)
I never thought that the boot process was *right*, and was misleaded with the
overlapping output. Sorry to have reopened the bug and bother you all :-(
Just for the record, I had to change the root=/dev/sdb7 in menu.lst to
root=/dev/mapper/sdb7
