https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343891#c288737 Summary: Booting openSUSE 10.2 with root on an external USB drive within a LVM partition fails Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: slawrance@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Depends on: 288737 Found By: Customer +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #288737 +++ Booting openSUSE 10.3 with root on an external USB drive within a LVM partition fails. I found, reported, suggested a fix for, and verified the patch for this issue in openSUSE 10.2, making this a regression for 10.3. It appears that mkinitrd has changed substantially with 10.3. When openSUSE 10.3 boots, it is unable to find the root after waiting for the root device to appear. To work around this for now, I added the following two lines to udev_check_for_device() in /lib/mkinitrd/scripts/boot-udev.sh: sleep 1 echo -n "." timeout=$(( $timeout - 1 )) + /sbin/lvm vgscan + /sbin/lvm vgchange -ay done fi return $retval; It's not a good workaround, but it works for me for now. I'll defer to the architect of the new mkinitrd to fix this scenario cleanly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
