i have the same problem. with iwl3945 i can't connect to hidden ssid's and even
if i got a connection established to another network, the connection gets lost
soon. so i'm still using ipw3945

Ok it was not good as i first thought. With "options iwl3945
disable_hw_scan=1"
/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi the system does NOT connect even with the
NetworkManager RPMs from Norman. Without that line in /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi
it connects, but the connects rarely works for more than 5 seconds. It just
dies, there is now iwevent or anthing, but I cannot ping anymore ... :-(
