Hm sounds to me as if using gdm cause problems with this command:

DCOPRef shutdown = DCOPRef( "ksmserver", "ksmserver" );
shutdown.send("logout", 0, 2, 2);

@Stefan: IMO it shouldn't matter if KDM or GDM is used?!

@reporter: Could you please do this:
- stop/exit kpowersave
- call: kdebugdialog --on 0 --fullmode
- set all 4 debug types (Information, Warning ...) to "Output to: File"
- apply the changes
- start kpowersave with option --dbg-trace (from console in your home
directory)
- press the power button
- if nothing happen: attach the file ~/kdebug.dbg to this bug as attachment
