Summary: network service tries to start up "ppp0~"
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: Final
Platform: Other
OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Network

ReportedBy: robin.listas@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Found By: ---
I see this in /var/log/boot.msg:
Setting up network interfaces:

lo IP address: 127.0.0.1/8
Checking for network time protocol daemon (NTPD): unused
done eth0 device: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+
(rev 10)
eth0 IP address: 192.168.1.12/24
Checking for network time protocol daemon (NTPD): unused
done ppp0
ppp0 Startmode is 'manual'
skipped ppp0~
ppp0~ Startmode is 'manual'
skippedSetting up service network . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
done
The name ppp0~ corresponds to a backup file made by mcedit or mc, and it should
be totally ignored by all scripts. However, it gets written to /dev:
cer@nimrodel:~> locate ppp0
/dev/shm/sysconfig/config-ppp0
/dev/shm/sysconfig/config-ppp0~
/dev/shm/sysconfig/if-ppp0
/dev/shm/sysconfig/if-ppp0~
/dev/shm/sysconfig/ready-ppp0
/dev/shm/sysconfig/ready-ppp0~
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ppp0
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-ppp0~
This system was upgraded from 10.2 recently, and is fully updated wit official
rpms only. In 10.2 there was no such error.
