But I had set driver to intel for quite a while, since the crashes occurred
only during logout / shutdown. Alas this did not enable 3D. Also crashes would
occur rather infrequently only the garbled display was there on every logut /
shut down.
Since updating to
cat /etc/SuSE-release
openSUSE 10.3.1 (i586) Alpha0
VERSION = 10.3.1
recently, it appears that the crashes have ceased. At least I don't see any
garbled screens, switching to tty1 with CTL+ALT+F1 is clean too.
My suggestion is to set the driver to the full featured state and watch the
situation.
If it gets critical again, I can always go to the fbdev driver manually.
