--- Comment #28 from Dr. Werner Fink 2007-11-05 09:50:10 MST ---
Does this mean that gdm exports WINDOW_MANAGER instead of the system default
name WINDOWMANAGER? Hopefully not because the variable WINDOWMANAGER is set
/etc/X11/xdm/Xsession with the help of the first argument which is normally
given by kdm/gdm. If this is done by kdm/gdm it is also marked as a forced
value and the system default from /etc/profile.d/profile.sh is ignored.
Also the forced value is used to start /etc/X11/xdm/sys.xsession with
the WINDOWMANAGER.
If not forced then the following scripts are tried
$HOME/.xsession
$HOME/.xinitrc
/etc/X11/xdm/sys.xsession
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
and at least the script tries to execute WINDOWMANAGER its self.
For the last two scripts /etc/X11/xdm/sys.xsession and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
the common script /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.common is sourced and with this
WINDOW_MANAGER is set to WINDOWMANAGER.
The question is: does the script from Wolfgang depend on WINDOW_MANAGER
or on WINDOWMANAGER or is window manager hard coded. Nevertheless if
kdm/gdm provide a choosen WINDOWMANAGER this used a forced value for
the script /etc/X11/xdm/sys.xsession.
