https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=339008 Summary: Cannot use serial port in HP nc6000 laptop Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: 2468_calvin@sbcglobal.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer I am a noob and tried SUSE 10.3. I used the standard installation of openSUSE 10.3 on my HP nc6000 laptop that has an internal modem and an external serial port on the back. This hard drive has only SUSE 10.3 on it, no dual boot. I have never been able to get SUSE to recognize the serial port, either ttyS0 through ttyS3. I have been to use the serial port when I put in a separate hard drive that contains Windows XP or Xandros Linux, so I know the serial port is accessible. Here are some terminal printouts that may be useful: NC6000:~ # ls /dev/ttyS* /dev/ttyS0 /dev/ttyS2 /dev/ttyS4 /dev/ttyS6 /dev/ttyS1 /dev/ttyS3 /dev/ttyS5 /dev/ttyS7 NC6000:~ # grep /dev/ttyS* grep: /dev/ttyS1: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttyS2: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttyS3: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttyS4: No such device or address grep: /dev/ttyS5: No such device or address grep: /dev/ttyS6: No such device or address grep: /dev/ttyS7: No such device or address NC6000:~ # dmesg | grep /dev/ttys* grep: /dev/ttys1: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys2: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys3: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys4: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys5: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys6: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys7: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys8: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttys9: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttysa: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttysb: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttysc: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttysd: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttyse: Input/output error grep: /dev/ttysf: Input/output error NC6000:~ # NC6000:/ # setserial -g /dev/ttyS* /dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4 /dev/ttyS1, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3 /dev/ttyS2, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03e8, IRQ: 4 /dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3 /dev/ttyS4: No such device or address /dev/ttyS5: No such device or address /dev/ttyS6: No such device or address /dev/ttyS7: No such device or address NC6000:/ # Thanks for any assistance. I am happy with SUSE 10.3, but if I cannot access the serial port I will not be able to use it for the main purpose that I use this laptop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
