Sure I applied the patch. Result of running "sax2 -a -r":

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver       "kbd"
  Identifier   "Keyboard[0]"
  Option       "Protocol" "Standard"
  Option       "XkbLayout" "us"
  Option       "XkbModel" "microsoftpro"
  Option       "XkbRules" "xfree86"
EndSection

when setting KEYTABLE="us" in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard. So in this case variant
is not written at all. :-( With KEYTABLE="de-latin1-nodeadkeys.map.gz" I'm
getting Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys" of course.
