I can't see a bug here except a not very comfortable "update" process which
could have updated your old i810 driver based xorg.conf to the new intel
driver based xorg.conf

anyway not a sax bug if you were able to setup the configuration while
starting from scratch

Stefan is there or should there be some magic for such updates ?

I considered this, but decided against. Instead we added a section to the
Release Notes.

<!-- bug 309002 -->
<sect3 id="intel-graphics" status="2007-09-11">
<title>Older Intel Graphics Chips</title>

<para>Older Intel graphics chips are supported by two drivers
(<quote>i810</quote> and <quote>intel</quote>). The intel driver is the
default on &opensuse; 10.3 due to the high demand for features like native
mode setting (no longer VESA BIOS based) and RANDR 1.2 support.</para>

<para>When updating to &opensuse; 10.3, the i810 driver is not exchanged
with the intel driver. Use "<command>sax2 -r</command>" to switch to the
intel driver.</para>

<para>The intel driver is still not as stable as i810; use "<command>sax2
-r -m 0=i810</command>" to switch back to i810, if you encounter problems
that did not occur previously with the i810 driver. In those cases,
consider to open a bug report against the intel driver.</para>
</sect3>

As a workaround for your i810 based configuration you can add ' Load "dri" ' to
Section Modules of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to enable 3D acceleration. But there
are more problmes to expect if you do this, e.g. Bug #328021, since other tools
also expect to see the intel driver in place.
