https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=336242 Summary: Openoffice cannot find Java after Java security update Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: eward@novell.com ReportedBy: R.Vickers@cs.rhul.ac.uk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer After applying a Java security update OpenOffice starts misbehaving, for example the web page wizard fails with the message: JRE is Defective. OpenOffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - Java. There is also a stderr message [Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library: file:///usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_07/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so. Now I have enough Unix experience to be able to go into the Options and reselect a JRE, but most users would be completely fazed by this message and not know what to do. If they had any anti-Unix feelings it would confirm their view that Unix is designed for geeks. A couple of points: (1) The location of the JRE should not be a user option, it should be a machine option (my OpenOffice config lives in an NFS directory shared across several machines) (2) The JRE location should be stored as a generic location using the /etc/alternatives mechanism I have reported this as an i686 problem, but I suspect it applies to all architectures. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
