I've installed the 2.6.23 kernel you provided. I get a lot of messages of

ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Not handling interrupt. Status register 0x00002000
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Not handling interrupt. Status register 0x00002000
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Shutting up FLR interrupt
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Not handling interrupt. Status register 0x00002008
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Not handling interrupt. Status register 0x00002008

I can't reproduce the error. As a lot of logging is happening it really often
switches from C3 to C2.

Is there something special which I should test?
