Hello,
I have an older Dyme Computer, Pentium 2, 386 MB of Memory, a CD-drive, a
DVD-drive and 2 harddisks.
The master harddisk is a 6.1 GB WDC-AC36400L-(PM)
The slave harddisk is a 74.5 GB WDC-WD800JB-00JJ
With the help of the GParted live-CD I have deleted all partitions on both
drives and created the following new ones intended for SAM-Linux (hda1, hda2
and hdb1) and openSUSE 10.3 (hda1, hdb1, hdb2 and hdb3)
On the 6.1 GB harddisc: /dev/hda1 0.1 GB ext3 to become /boot
/dev/hda2 5.9 GB ext3 to become /
0.1 GB unallocated
On the 75.4 GB harddisc: /dev/hdb1 2.0 GB linux-swap
/dev/hdb2 15.0 GB ext3 to become /
/dev/hdb3 30.0 GB ext3 to become /home
28.4 GB unallocated
The openSUSE 10.3 install started normally. I could see on the detail screen
that the system could select from: ata-piix, piix, ata-generic and generic
drivers and selected the ata-piix
On the installation settings overview screen I selected "Partitioning", since
the suggested partitioning did not use the /boot partition nor the the other
already created partitions. On the suggested partitioning screen I selected
"Create Custom Partition Set Up". On the preparing hard disk - step 1 screen
the system showed:
1 IDE 74.5 GB, /dev/sda WDC-WD800JB-00JJ
2 Custom Partitioning for experts
I selected Custom Partitioning for experts. On the following "Expert
Partitioning screen the system shows only:
1 /dev/sda 74.5 GB WDC-WD800JB-00JJ
2 /dev/sda1 2.0 GB linux-swap
3 /dev/sda2 15.0 GB linux-native
4 /dev/sda3 30.0 GB linux-native
