[Bug 335676] kernel OOPS when starting nut UPS daemon

Since the uninitialized value is used to determine how much memory is
dynamically allocated, it does cause problems (but maybe not related to this
bug), so fixing it is highly recommended anyway.
I have seen this driver attempting to allocate hundreds of megabytes of memory
due to this bug, so it might easily exhaust all available memory. I don't know
how well memory starvation is handled by other programs.
