I think the bug is about the online update package I did for some previous
releases, which allowed to download and install the firmware quite
conveniently
using YaST. But it's rather annoying to do this every release again, so we
should eventually find a better and more general way to detect missing
firmware
and download them in YaST.

Actually the fact that I couldn't find such a package in YOU triggered me to
create this bug. However as you write, this may not be the perfect solution,
but it made it very easy to download and install the firmware. How about the
following solution:
having the download script installed by default (or at least when choosing
network pattern), then when user is about to configure network (using yast),
the install_intersil_firmware should be run (to download and install it) if
matching hardware is found. The same could be done for other firmware...

Otherwise I think you can mark this bug as resolved since the fetch_and_install
scripts is now part of distro and no longer necessary to get via YOU.
