Hello. I wish I knew more about the sound system. I fear this could be a dupe
of bugs like 299735 293394 291419 but none of them seemed to match my issue
exactly.

I'm using gnome and opensuse 10.3.

I have a Dell Optiplex 745. This has the following info from lspci related to
sound:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)

Using the standard sound mixer in gnome (clicking on the speaker icon in the
tray) or using kmix (but within gnome), I cannot get sound to go out the
speakers. I can get sound to go out the headphones ('Headphone' slider) and I
can get sound to go out the "inside-the-case-crummy-speaker" using the "mono"
slider.

In ubuntu 7.10rc, the speakers can be controlled by the "front" slider. This
slider is present in opensuse10.3 as well, but changing it does not make it so
sound comes out the attached speakers. In the short term, I can probably just
switch
between the headphones and speaker in the headphone jack.

Again, sorry if this is a dupe. I'm willing to try some stuff if requested.
Thanks.
