Ok. GDM, like all GNOME programs, uses UTF-8 internally, and these messages are
translated along with all the other gettext strings, into UTF-8.
This problem is caused by translations in an eastern script being written to
the console. What do we do for eastern scripts on the console? It sounds to me
like this isn't even fixable. Do we revert to printing messages in some other
language?
