The windows version I tried to install it was Windows XP Home SP2. And indeed I
installed it Ok, but in the OSE version of virtualbox.
Otherwise, I came to know the OSE version of Virtualbox does not support shared
folders. So (even although I got pointing the correct path for the shared
folder as earlier quoted), then there was not any shared folders to work with
at "My PC".
But, anyway, so far I couldn't install the PUEL version of Virtualbox, which
has shared folders capability, yet it's also free.
The PUEL version it is not included in the 1-Click install, only the OSE
version. And downloading the PUEL files from Virtualbox website it also doesn't
work.
I downloaded the two versions, for openSUSE 10.2 and the general Linux
distributions file, as follows:
- VirtualBox-1.5.0_24069_openSUSE102-2.i586.rpm.run
- VirtualBox_1.5.0_Linux_x86.run
The general distro file does not work (or I couldn't. . ). As for the
openSUSE10.2 file, when trying to start the virtual machine an error message
appears, that there is not the kernel module:
Message during installation:
“# rpm -i VirtualBox-1.5.0_24069_openSUSE102-2.i586.rpm
Creating group 'vboxusers'. VM users must be member of that group!
No precompiled module for this kernel found -- trying to build one. Messages
emitted during module compilation will be logged to /var/log/vbox-install.log.
Compilation of the kernel module FAILED! VirtualBox will not start until this
problem is fixed. Please consult /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out why the
kernel module does not compile. Most probably the kernel sources are not found.
Install them and execute
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
as root.”
When trying to start the virtualmachine, the following error message displays:
“VirtualBox kernel driver not installed. The vboxdrv kernel module was either
not loaded or /dev/vboxdrv was not created for some reason. Re-setup the kernel
module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root.
VBox status code: -1908 (VERR_VM_DRIVER_NOT_INSTALLED).
Result Code:
0x80004005
Component:
Console
Interface:
IConsole {1dea5c4b-0753-4193-b909-22330f64ec45}”
When running the /etc/initd/vboxddrv setup, I got:
"# /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Stopping VirtualBox kernel module done
Recompiling VirtualBox kernel module failed
(Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)"
And this Log file says:
"Makefile:82: *** Error: unable to find the include directory for your current
Linux kernel. Specify KERN_INCL=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop."
I then installed kernel-source (version 2.6.22.10-3. Linux installed version of
kernel-default: 2.6.22.9-0.4) through YAST, but still nothing. Perhaps it's
that this version of virtualbox is for opensuse10.2 while I am running 10.3 So
we will have to wait until virtualbox develops the PUEL version for
openSUSE10.3 to have shared folders capability.
Regards,
Victor
