Hello,
I have no OSD on my Thinkpad after installation of suse10.3.

I have installed the "hotkey-setup" and changed the permissions of the nvram
device in
/etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules

KERNEL=="nvram", GROUP="users", MODE="0660".

The function-keys works fine but I have no OSD.
