I had a similar experience when I upgraded to the latest kernel and mouse
software upgrades (I don't know which caused the problem) but none of the
drivers intended for my Logitech marble mouse worked until I noticed a new
Microsoft Gaming USB driver in the list of available drivers.   I tried it and
even though I have nothing resembling Microsoft anything in my home, it
worked....go figure.   The wheel works on this one driver alone on my Logitech
marble wheel mouse.
