umtsmon GUI shows the sum of Upload and Download. It works when the device is
ppp0, but when it is another device, it is not updated, it is always 0.

Testcase to reproduce the problem: 
in /etc/ppp/options add the line 
unit 1
With that, the umts device will be ppp1
(then you can start a vpn connection that uses ppp0, and the transfer values of
umtsmon will be updated with the values of the vpn connection ppp0...)
