Yes, I understand... for sure it makes sens to support only one stack, full
ack.
Related to your question about another boot of 10.3 install... what should I
check there? Loading up pata will end up with the frozen system, setting pata
as brokenmodule will work, it821x will be loaded and I'm be able to install the
distribution. Should I now try to install twice, without online updates?
Wouldn't it be enough to just only "downgrade" the kernel? That's what I did in
#80...
If you like I can do a 2nd install...

the pata_it821x world?)
What I did is s/hd/sd/ for fstab and menu.conf, put the pata_it821x in initrd
and add a brokenmudules=it821x to the kernel append. And during the boot I can
see the successfully load (it looks good for me, see #77) of the pata system
but shortly after that /dev/sdb5 (/dev/sdb5 is /boot and /dev/sdb6 is / and so
on...) will not be found (see #81)
