Stephan, so pata_it821x works fine on KOTD, right? You can fix the boot
problem by mounting root partition by volume label or UUID. You can switch
between hdX and sdX and the system will work just fine. It can be configured
in yast but you probably need to update two places - system->partitioner and
system->boot loader. In partitioner, it's edit->fstab options. In boot
loader, I'm not sure how to actually massage it but the end result should look
like the following.
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-blahblah root=/dev/disk/by-label/{ROOT_LABEL} other_opts..
