https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=332498 Summary: at-spi issue with Gnome 2.20 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lists@digitaldarragh.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Novell Technical Services learn more about at-spi at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT-SPI There are two issues that are connected regarding this issue. 1. User installs via Gnome CD. After installation, they launch the Orca screen reader. They are guided through the basic start up questions. After completeing these questions, they are prompted to log out. When they log in again, an error is shown on screen reporting that at-spi is either not installed or is not configured correctly. The user installs at-spi via yast and the error is nolonger shown. However, the orca screen reader still does not behave correctly. When Orca is run after the user logs in again, a screen with two buttons is shown offering preferences or quit. When the tab key is used, the focus cycles between these two focusable controls. Ordinarily, Orca should speak these control name and types when focus is given to them however it does not. Likewise, if you start the pidgin messenger, Orca does not speak. Problem 2. The user installs from CD with all repositories used during installation. The user ensures that all software is required and after installation no errors regarding at-spi are shown. However, the Orca screen reader still does not speak. This is the same problem as described above. Possible solutions have not worked. We have internally installed Orca and at-spi via svn. http://svn.gnome.org/svn/orca/trunk http://svn.gnome.org/svn/at-spi/trunk This however has not resolved the issue. Running an online update has also not prooved successfull.
From my understanding, the problem may be due to the component of Gnome that is referencing at-spi. With the move from /opt to /usr perhaps at-spi is being referenced in the wrong location? This is only a non-educated theory at the moment.
This issue is seriously debilitating our visually impaired and Blind user base as they are unable to access the graphical environment. Your urgent assistance would be appreciated in roling out a fix for this that will be accessible via an online update.
