some more info:
if configuring my ethernet interface with yast the ifcfg-eth0 file ends up with
a line like IPADDRESS='XXX.YYY.ZZZ.WWW/24'. no netmask/broadcast line shows up
and that seems to confuse network manager.
by adding lines with netmask='...' and broadcast='...' and restarting the
network (important) networkmanager seems to work properly that is unplug/plugin
events will lead to correct values for ip/nm/bc.
find attached:
- NetworkManager logfile
- ifcfg-eth0 written by yast + ifconfig output caused by networkmanager
- ifcfg-eth0 done by hand + /etc/init.d/network restart + --- " ---
