I believe the problem is related to HP equipment. I am installing on a HP
Pavilion DV9443CA notebook which is close in specifications to the Compaq
V6133CL.
In my install, and subsequent boot-ups, I notice that HP drivers are used for
the SATA and PATA drives and a version of HP's BCM43XX Broadcom driver is
loaded.
I have been unable to modify or remove the sound card reference using YAST. I
even went so far as to reinstall 10.3 but it single-mindedly uses the V6133CL
as a sound card reference with munged up drivers (I guess).
Kubuntu installs the sound card properly and when queried states that it is a
Nvidia MCP51 High Definition Sound using a Conexant CX20549 (Venice) chip set.
HP had some computers certified for use with Linux distos and I am guessing
that this problem is part of the work that they have done, that has not been
updated for the newer releases.
I'll try the patch.
