When installing openSUSE 10.3 on my desktop machine the installation hangs
while installing the grub package.

I switched to the console (Alt+F2) and "ps auxf" showed that it hangs on the
sync command in "D+" state. vmstat shows no I/O going on. It is called in the
second line of the post-installation rpm script. It was not possible to kill
the sync (also not with kill -9)

I ran into the same situation later when installing the kernel (after some ways
to continue installation after reboot, also sync).

Both hard disks work well and I have seen no problematic output on dmesg, but I
also had a hang on installation when he attemped to mount one of the windows
drives located on /dev/sdb (NTFS drive, maybe another bug report). For all
other installations I have not entered any mount points for the windows drives.
The only partition used on /dev/sdb is the swap partition.
