- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx

- Message-id: <bug-331257-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=331257
Summary: install failes because of lack of options for boot
loader location
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: Final
Platform: 32bit
OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: achiestdragon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: jsrain@xxxxxxxxxx
Found By: System Test
on a machine with a prior install of suse (10.2) when the boot loader is set to
MBR and installation set to new install , partitioned to use all disk
the install fails to boot as the old mbr settings are left intact
giving the :-
no operating system installed
message on first boot during the install
theres no install option to allow for alternate boot locations in the install
so makes this rather unavoidable
work around
reboot from install dvd
select other install options
and boot the installed hard drive operating system from there
the installation will then continue
when the rest of the install is finished you have to
run yast and set the boot loader location in there so it will correct it
for future restarts
im filing this as a bug as there should be alternate options for boot loader
location in the install even though it may be unrecommended to change the
settings , in some cases theres little option
other than that , great job suse dev's
